Baseline

What is a baseline? When is it suggested to use the baseline? And when is the best time to save your baseline? Is it important to have a baseline?

Thank you

RE: Baseline

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the question,

A baseline is the original plan that you enter for your project. If is used to track the progress of the project!

On the Tools menu, point to Tracking, and then click Save Baseline.

Save baseline section, (I would start with that, best to save it initially)

Save Baseline When you click Save baseline, you can specify the baseline you want to save. You can save up to 11 different baselines. Baseline information is stored in the Baseline Start, Baseline Finish, Baseline Work, Baseline Duration, and Baseline Cost fields.

The start and finish dates for tasks are updated as you adjust and track your project. By creating a baseline plan, you can compare the most current information (stored in the start and finish fields), with the baseline information (stored in the baseline fields).

To view a baseline plan after you have saved it, display the Tracking Gantt view with the Tracking or Variance table applied.
To view more than one baseline plan, goto view then more views and select the Multiple Baselines Gantt view.

Hope that helps

Tracy

MS Project tip:

When you need to communicate important information to your project staff use Microsoft Project 2003 to send them a note using outlook or an e-mail system.

1.In a task sheet, select the task or tasks which you want to send a project note.

2.On the File menu, point to Send To, and then select Mail Recipient (as Schedule Note).

3.Under Address message to, select the recipients of your note.
