Is it possible to amend a layer of information without changing or affecting a previous layer?

Thank you for your question regarding Layers.
Yes, you can make the changes you are asking about. Layers are separate so you can make modifications to a layer with out affecting a previous layer.
To enable this, you are able to LOCK a layer, which will prevernt any changes being made to that layer. This is a good way of going about it.
