Resource, master project, consolidate

how can I convert the 3 existing projects (with their own resources) into one master page with one central resource pool

RE: resource, master project, consolidate

Hi Steve

Thanks for your question.

Create a new project file - this will be your Master Project file. From the menu bar choose Insert > Project...

Project then opens a dialogue box that allows you to choose sub project files to insert into your Master Project file.

Before you choose your files and click insert you need to decide if you want your Master project link to your source project files or to import then and break any links back to their sources.

If you choose the first option the Master Project will automatically be updated if any of its inserted sub-projects are updated - and vice versa. Resource information from each of the projects is imported and each gets their own line on the resource sheet even if resources in different sub-projects share the same name.

Alternatively if you choose to keep the Master Project independent of the source files remove the tick next to "Link to Project" in the insert project dialogue box. Now the Master Project file will not change if any of the sub files are modified. Importantly though if there is more than one resource with the same name then the first occurrence of that resource will overwrite any subsequent resource that shares that name.

I hope this helps - do let us know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,

Andrew

MS Project tip:

Giving Someone a Gantt Chart Snapshot

To pass on a picture of a Gantt chart segment, choose the appropriate view, select the rows to be included, then click on the camera icon and select For Screen. The graphics image can be pasted into another document. (See Paste icon forn Project 2010)
