Hi Craig
When you create a resource and allocate a cost rate to it Project will work out how much that resource will cost when you assign it to a task.
One way to assign a resource to a task is, in the Gantt view, choose window > split. Click on the task you wish to assign resources to. In the lower left part of the form at the bottom of the screen you can now choose your resources for this task. Clicking on OK will then assign them.
