Linking Project Plans

What is the most efficient way to link multiple project plans into one consolidated view (for a central PMO function for example?)

RE: Linking Project Plans

Hi Kate,

Thank you for your question

If the resources use the same common resource pool the solution is easy. Simply open the resource pool and you will be presented with a dialog box giving you three options; the third of which allows you to open a master file, with the individual files inserted into it.

You can then link across projects in the usual way.

If however there is no common resource pool, then you can open a blank project and insert the individual projects by clicking on the insert menu and selecting "project". Again you can then link the projects in the normal way.

Regards

Stephen

MS Project tip:

Link tasks using predecessor column - project

a. First, note ID number of the task you want to link to (predecessor). Then, in the predecessor column of the task you want to link to (successor), type the predecessor task's ID number.
b. The link will be a Finish to Start (the default type).
c. Or you can add in a code for a different relationship type
i. SS = Start to Start
ii. FF = Finish to Finish
iii. SF = Start to Finish
d. You don't have to type the task ID numbers in any specific order, but you must separate multiple tasks with commas.
