Dropdown menu hidden by main frame

Hi

I've created my index page using a template, with the company banner at the top, a list of options down the left hand side and the main frame in the middle where the pages should open.

The pages all open as they should, but i have a whole load of dropdown menus coming off the buttons in the left frame, and when they pop out they are obscured by whatever is in the main frame.

Is there a way i can bring the menu's to the top (as it were)?

Thanks for your help. I'm really getting my moneys worth from the support forum! ;)

RE: Dropdown menu hidden by main frame

Duncan,

If you are using frames, then unfortunately a layer (eg. pop-up menus) will only appear within the given frame area, and will not appear over the top of other frames.

You will need to increase the size of the left frame, or perhaps design the left sidebar menu so that the menus pop-up below, rather than to the right of each sidebar element.

Or, not use pop-ups at all: expand the menu content below each element.

This is another unfortunate limitation to the frustration that is frames.

Regards, Rich

Dreamweaver tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.
