IMPORTING EXTERNAL DATA

I have set up an XL sheet to import data from an MS Access database, which I have now moved from its original location. When I refresh the database, I get an error message that it can't find the access database. I click Ok and it takes me to a Login window where I select the Database tab and direct it to the database's new location. I click OK but when refreshing again, while I don't get an error message, the data don't change or the cells go blank. What should I do?

RE: IMPORTING EXTERNAL DATA

Hi Zoe

The steps you have followed to re-connect sound correct. There are some troubleshooting things you may wish to try:

double check the data is correct in the database you are connecting to and that the file in the new location is the latest version

try connecting to the database from a fresh spreadsheet to make sure you can connect to the data - there may be a problem with your excel file.

I hope this helps - do let us know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Excel tip:

Reset Excel toolbars to default settings

If you find any of your toolbars in Excel have changed (i.e. they are missing or have extra buttons) then you can reset them to their defaults.

1. Go to Tools - Customise.
2. Select the Toolbars tab.
3. Select (highlight) the name of the toolbar you wish to reset, then click the Reset button on the right.
4. Close the dialogue box.
