Cleaning up a Resource Pool
I have a Resource Pool of c.150 people. When projects are finished I delink the plans from the Resource Pool, but we keep the plan to refer back to. Since quite a few of the Resource Pool entries are contractors who have left us, I wondered a) if there's any value in deleting these entries from the Resource Pool (in terms of the stability of the RP, reduce processing time or room for file corruption etc) and b) how I'd do that if there is, without having to delete any activities from the plans they were originally allocated to.

Hi Jenny
Thanks for your question.
All of our Project trainers are busy training today, but someone should be able to get back to you as soon as they can.
Kind Regards,

RE: Cleaning up a Resource Pool
Hi Jenny,
Thank you for your question. Apologies for the late reply. Having around 150 resources in the pool shouldn't make much difference to the speed / storage space of your network, even if linked to multiple projects.
If you want to delete resources from the pool but keep them assigned to tasks in another project for record purposes, before you delete the resources from the pool, open the other project(s) and go to the Resource tab. Here, select the Resource Pool button and change the settings so that 'Use own resources' and 'Sharer takes precedence' are selected.
This way, the resources are copied into the project and the links to the pool are broken so that you can delete the resources in the pool.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards
Marius Barnard

MS Project tip:Inserting Task Durations QuicklyWhen entering durations for your tasks simply use the single letters - m for min, h for hr, d for day, w for week, but mon for month. If default is set for days, you need only type the number, for example 3 for 3days, or 0.5 for half a day. |
