PowerPoint Reports
Hi, I am trying to find a report from PowerPoint 2013. That shows Level 1 tasks against start and finish dates.
Similar to the gantt chart view. But a report. I can create a chart version of the report which has all the information I want: level 1 tasks, start dates, finish dates and % complete.
But when I try and use a graph, I can put in the level 1 tasks along the hoizontal axis, but I can't seem to put in months or dates on the vertical axis. It's always in hours or days.
RE: PowerPoint Reports
Hi Christine
Thank you for your question. One way to produce a table report that is similar to the Gantt chart table is to try the following:
On the Report tab choose New Report and select the Table option
Once the starting report has been created change the settings you need on the Field List pane, on the left of the screen. For example you can select the fields to be included in the table by ticking the appropriate items as well as choose the outline level to display the detail you need.
Let me know if this helps or if you have further questions.
Kind regards,
Kind regards,
Andrew
RE: PowerPoint Reports
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for your response. Yes I have used the table report function already. I'm after level 1 tasks, Start date, finish date and % complete in a Graph format not a table.
Is this possible?
Thanks,.
Christine

RE: PowerPoint Reports
Hi Christine
Thanks for the update - tell me a little more about the chart you are seeking to make. For example what would you like to have on the x and Y axes and are you looking to create a bar, column or line chart etc.?
Many thanks,
Andrew
RE: PowerPoint Reports
Thanks Andrew.
It would be a bar chart. On the vertical axis it would have the Level 1 tasks/milestones.
The horizontal axis would have the dates as months. So it would show the start and finish dates (duration) of each task.

RE: PowerPoint Reports
Hi Christine
Thank you that is really helpful.
I found an interesting article on creating a Gantt Chart style chart in Excel which could be a way in (although it's for an earlier version of Excel the principle of adapting a chart to appear as a Gantt chart seems to fit here)
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/excel-help/create-a-gantt-chart-in-excel-HA001034605.aspx
In Project you may find the Remaining and Scheduled Duration values useful in the Duration field collection
When it comes to formatting the dates you can double click on the Axis and in Format Axis > Number set the Format Code to create the result you are looking for. For example mmm will produce a 3 letter month name (May Jun Jul) and mmmm will show the full month name.
I found a project template that has a similar (though not identical chart which might be a good starting point.
Try making a new project and choosing the Software Development template. Take a look at the report called Software Development Plan (it's in Report > Custom).
See if this gets closer to the result you are looking for and let me know how you get on.
Kind regards,
Andrew
