Blank lines

Hi,
How do I insert a non-Task line? i.e. a blank line that permits free text without any dates ?

I have tried the Insert (Fn -F10- Insert) function but it introduces a new Task line...

Thanks, Danielle

RE: Blank lines

Hi Danielle

Thanks for your question. You can insert a non task line by using the Inert (on its own) key on your keyboard. There is usually a dedicated key for this purpose on a keyboard that doesn't require a function key. This should insert a line with no dates to separate your tasks.

Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

RE: Blank lines

Hi Andrew,
I use a mini keyboard, and there is no Insert key (on its own). I have to activate the function key.

It's quite a basic operation to insert a blank line (I remember your demonstation), but it's not working on my mini keyboard.

This may be a hardware issue but if you have any ideas, let me know!

Thanks,
Danielle

RE: Blank lines

Hi Danielle

It does sound like a hardware issue. An alternative would be to drag a blank line up the schedule and drop it between the sections you are building.

Your keyboard may also allow you to remap its keys so you can press a different key and get an inserted row.

Let me know if either of these produce an answer that works for you.

Kind regards,
Andrew

MS Project tip:

Keep constraining dates to a minimum

As far as possible avoid fixing the dates of your tasks. For example try to steer of clear dragging task bars in the Gantt chart to move them on the timeline or entering dates directly into the Start / Finish fields.

Date constraints such as these limit Microsoft Project's ability to automatically adjust your project whenever you add, remove or modify the duration of your tasks. Instead use the logic in your task dependencies that link your tasks to enable Project to calculate the start and finish dates for you.
