MS project

can this be used with MS Access

RE: MS project

Hello Chaz,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Project courses with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding using MS Project with Access.

You cannot export data to Access, however, you can import data from Access 2003. Obviously the data should be Project oriented e.g. you may have a list of resources in Access and wish to use this list without having to retype it into Project.

To do this click the open button and from the type option choose Access then navigate to the file. After the file has been chosen you will now have to work through the Import Wizard. Unless you have an existing map you will have to choose 'New Map'. You will then be presented with three choices of how do you want to import this file. Then you need to select the types of data you wish to import after which you will be taken to the Task Mapping area. From the first drop-down you will choose the table which will place all Access fields on the left which you need to map to Project fields on the right. Delete rows you don't need and click finish.

The import wizard will have transferred data from Access into Project.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

MS Project tip:

MS Project 2010 Scroll to Task

Ever feel lost on a large project file? In Gantt view, Task ribbon, Editing, click on the Scroll to Task tool to centre the task bar on your screen.

Shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F5

Same as Go to Selected Task in MS Project 2003.
