If I add data to the range in a table, can excell automatically update the graph without me having to drag the data souce box over the new data?
RE: Graphs
Hi Chris
Thank you for your question.
I have had a look at the Microsoft website and the following link takes you to a page that describes ways of updating a chart - all but one require the source values to be edited however.
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/add-data-to-a-chart-HP005198472.aspx #BMdifferentdata
The exception is in the section called:
COPY WORKSHEET DATA INTO A CHART
It will only work with embedded charts but may be worth testing on a back up copy of your report. It still requires user input but uses copy and paste rather than having to drag or edit data ranges. Although it's listed as relating to Excel 2003 the copy and paste approach works in 2010.
A different approach would be to convert your source data to a table (Home ribbon > Style group > Format as Table.
If you base your chart on data in the table and add a new record to the table the chart will automatically update to include the data.
I hope these two approaches help. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Andrew
