Macro recording in Excel

I have a worksheet with data for the last 12 weeks (this data is grabbed from another worksheet within the same workbook) and charts (which references to the data in this worksheet) that I update weekly. I tried to record a macro so data and charts would be updated, however it worked only with the data - no charts were updated.

Do I have to do it differently? Does Macro work for charts as well?

Thank you,
Ranyere

RE: Macro recording in Excel

Hi Ranyere

Thanks for your question

This is a little puzzling because the chart should automatically update when the data changes. How do you update the data in the macro? Is it possible for you to send me a copy of the workbook?
If so my email address is sw@stl-training.co.uk

Stephen

RE: Macro recording in Excel

Hi Ranyere

Thanks for sending me the file. I was looking at it over the weekend and unfortunately had a few problems with my hard drive. As a result, the file you sent has been lost.

Could you resend it to me please

Sorry about this

Cheers

Stephen

RE: Macro recording in Excel

Not a problem at all, Stephen. I've just sent it to you.

Many thanks,
Ranyere

RE: Macro recording in Excel

Hi Stephen,

I was wondering if you've had a chance to have a look at the sheet?

Many thanks,
Ranyere

RE: Macro recording in Excel

Hi Ranyere

Sorry for the delay

I've looked at the file you sent me and there is no macro with it. This suggests that when you recorded the macro you stored it in your personal macro workbook. This might effect your problem as the file might not be properly referenced.
Can I suggest you re record the macro, but choose the "Save Macro in this workbook" option. If this solves the problem then great, if not then send me the new workbook, with the macro so I can have a look at the underlying code.

If re recording the macro is too difficult, let me know and I'll give you a procedure for copying it across.

Stephen

RE: Macro recording in Excel

Hi Ranyere

Thanks for the file.

When I run the macro, everything runs fine. In particular all the charts seem to update automatically.

One thing to check is whether you are in automatic calculation mode. Go to the formula ribbon, and in the calculation group click on calculation options and make sure that automatic is selected

Failing that, as the file works on my machine it is difficult for me to do any more without sitting down at your machine. One possibility would be to consult your IT support people as it could be an installation issue

Stephen

RE: Macro recording in Excel

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for that.

I am in automatic mode.

Note that the table and charts are for the last 12 weeks, What happens here is that when I click on the botton the table is updated fine (it goes from weeks 14-25 to weeks 15-26), however the charts don't follow suit (they go from weeks 14-25 to weeks 15-25) but display 11 weeks only.

Doesn't that happen there?

I'll get the IT team to check my machine.

Thanks,
Ranyere
