will macros in Excel 2007 wok in Excel 2003?
RE: excel 2007
Hello Gavin,
Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Excel Advanced course with Best STL.
Thank you for your question regarding 2007 macro backward compatibility with 2003.
The short answer is yes... but only in some cases.
Since newer versions of the Office programs are more robust than their earlier predecessors, certain functions, VBA code, formatting, etc. available in these versions are not available in the earlier versions. So naturally, some macros created in the newer version may not function fully in the older versions.
So if you want to ensure that your VBA code works on Excel 2003, you should not create your VBA code in anything newer than Excel 2003 (always program in the oldest version that may be using it, if possible).
99% of the time, VBA code created in older versions will function in newer versions, but the the opposite is certainly not true (I say 99% of the time because for the first time in my memory, Microsoft took away some functionality in 2007, like the FileSearch VBA function and the ability to create DBF files).
I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.
If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?
Have a great day.
Regards,
Rodney
