Project deadline alert

In my Project I have a final task entitled "Launch" which is my final milestone. Below this task I have another task titled "Deadline conveyed to Management".
Basically I told the Powers that be my baseline Launch date as a completion date and have managed to save myself some time so my current Launch date is actually earlier.

What I want to do is create a VBA msgbox alert so that if I start to slip I want it to warn me I've exceeded my deadline.

My VBA is pretty useless so I need the whole string of code. I want it to look at the "Launch" date and the "Deadline" date everytime I change something. If my Launch date exceeds my deadline date I want it to throw up a msgbox saying "Deadline exceeded!" or something.

Can this be done?

RE: Project deadline alert

Hi Dan

Thank you for your question - VBA could probably do this for you - unfortunately though VBA is outside the scope of this forum.

An alternative would be to use the built in deadline feature in MS Project. It doesn't generate a pop up box but it will indicate if a task is running later than a date that is important to you.

To set this up in your project double click your final Launch task. On the advance tab set the deadline date to the "Deadline conveyed to management" date. An arrow shaped marker will appear in the schedule on the same line as the launch task. It points at the deadline date you set. Now if the launch task is delayed beyond the deadline date a red diamond shape indicator will appear beside the task's row to alert you.

I hope this helps - do let us know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Andrew

MS Project tip:

Autofit column width – Project (all versions)

At the top of the columns where each column name is located (Task Name, Duration, etc.), hover over the vertical column line which you want to move.

A short bold vertical line will appear, with horizontal arrows pointing left and right.

Left click and hold this icon and it will permit you to grab the column line, allowing you to move it left or right to your desired location.
