Copy/pasting problem Project/Excel

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft 2007 course with Best STL.
Thank you for your question regarding copying from Project to Excel.

There are two ways you can achieve what it is that you are looking to do.

1) The professional way...

File > Save-As > Change Save-As Type to Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls) > Choose a folder where you would like to save the export > enter a File Name > Click Save.

The Export Wizard will open > Click Next > Choose Project Excel Template >
Click Finish

From within Excel Click Open > Navigate to the folder where you saved the exported file > select the file > Click open. The exported data will have all headings included with the data.

This works well for exporting standard tables from Project into Excel, however, you may at times need to select the Selected Data option then select New Map. You will then be required to locate the Project Field names on the left hand side of the export dialog box and make sure that the names that appear in the right-hand side which will be exported to Excel are as you require. Please note, the Project Field names are not always the same as the headings.

2) The 'not so' professional and perhaps longer method...

In Project select the data you wish to copy to Excel > Ctrl+C to copy the data > Click a cell in Excel > Ctrl+V > Click just below the pasted data > Click Edit > Paste Special > Paste to > Microsoft Project Document Object > Click OK

This will paste a picture of the data from Project which will include the headings. You can now enter the headings as you were previously doing without having to switch back and forth between Excel and Project.

TIP! Make sure that all the columns of data of fully visible before copying.
