MS Project 2010 - Insert a New Task

Thanks Andrew, as we discussed (in person) as a development team specialist I'm sure we could work this out for ourselves, I was just optimistic that I wasn't alone in this requirement and therefore someone else may have found a solution that works already. (This could potentially save us a lot of development time).

But heres my current thinking:

If I was to insert it as non-working time - this would lengthen the duration of a task which is more or less the same result - I can categorise my non-working time and presumably report on it by it's category.

Here's the bit of info I probably should have mentioned; this "interrupting task" is typically non-development so it doesn't have to be recorded/tracked or planned in the same way as the original plan - so doing it as non-working time would work for me. Having said that I could still plan for it - my issue then becomes - how can I see different types of non-working time highlighted differently on the plan - currently it's all one format on screen isn't it?

So my conclusion is: I would *LOVE* to see different non-working time formatted differently - such that weekends can keep the default of grey (if I wanted) and holidays are a different colour, sickness a third colour, and these interrupting tasks a fourth colour (obviously there could be more potentially). This would be perfectissimo!
