Scheduling conflict dialogue box
I get a dialogue box saying "This action will cause a scheduling conflict. Task 68 has a task constraint or is linked to a task that cannot move and as a result the constraint or the link cannot be set." This happens when I try to update % complete column for another task.
I cannot find any constraint on that task [68]. (I'm looking at Task dialogue box - Advanced tab).
That task [68] is a predecessor to another task [71] but 71 also does not have a constraint set.
68 and 71 are both summary tasks.
Is there anywhere else I can find the constraint/link info?
Thanks
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
Has the task you are trying to mark as 100% completed slipped? ie. is the scheduled finish later than the baseline finish? If both 68 and 71 are summary tasks you may well have a constraint on one of their sub tasks. Check your information column on the Entry table. A calendar will display next to the task that has a constraint.
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
Thank you for your quick reply.
I hadn't saved a baseline but the task I was trying to mark as 100% complete yesterday had slipped - it had Sept dates in the Start and Finish columns on the plan (not constraints, those were the dates that Project calculated).
The only calendar in the information column is on the final task, product launch. That task uses a non-standard calendar that I created, so the product launch would be scheduled for a weekend only.
Also, the final task has already been marked as complete.
thanks
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
It may help if you can send me the file?
Kind regards Tanya
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
Thanks, sory for the delay I've been away. How do I attach the file?
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
Hi Clare,
Best to send it to info at stl-training.co.uk and we will send it to Tanya. Please mark it for her attention.
Thank you,
Richard
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
Hi Clare
Just wanted to check to see how this is going for you. One way to see if there is a constraint anywhere in your schedule would be to use a filter. Try the Project menu then choose Filtered for > More filters then choose the Tasks with Fixed Dates
Does this identify tasks further in the plan that can't move?
Kind regards,
Andrew
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
I've emailed the project plan to info@stl-training.co.uk with the subject line "FAO: Tanya - scheduling conflict dialogue box enquiry".
I tried using the filter, but that resulted in the task text disappearing and all I could see where the minus boxes that let you hide/show tasks under a summary task.
Thanks
Clare
RE: Scheduling conflict dialogue box
Dear Clare
I have had a look at your plan. You have one constraint in your schedule on row 103 - Start no earlier than 27/11/2009 08:00.This summary task is also linked to the previous task with a Finish to Start link. (Row 100) Any tasks above these rows in the project that are finished ahead of time will reschedule any linked tasks or summary tasks. This constraint on row 103 will not allow this task to be rescheduled any earlier than 27/11/2009 even by an hour. Could you remove the link between Row 100 and Row 103?
Kind regards
Tanya
