Conerting time in minutes (4:18) to seconds (258 secs)

Is it possible to set up a formula that turns minutes and seconds into seconds i.e. we currently use a formula whereby we have two columns, one which turns minutes into seconds and then we add this to another column of just seconds.

Please advise if there is a set formula to do this?
Thanks
Wendy

RE: Conerting time in minutes (4:18) to seconds (258 secs)

Hello Wendy

Thank you for your question.

Try multiplying the time in minutes and seconds by 1440, to get the number of seconds only.

I found this solution on the following page - the poster here suggests formatting the time in mins and secs as text, but I don't think it will be necessary to do this. I tried using the formula with the cell containing the time in mins and secs with a custom format (mm:ss) applied and it still seemed to work ok.
