Inserting a Form into an Editable Region in a template

I need to insert a contact form into an Editable region in a template page that i used throughout a website. When i click inside the editable region, i get a message box stating that 'making this change would require a change to the code that is locked by a template. The change will be discarded'
I understand the code will be changed, but i thought the that if it is within the editable region then thats fine and is what these regions are for. Any ideas how to overcome this? The other pages in the website use this region for text.

Thank you for your question.
First test out templates in your site by creating a new template that is a blank page with an editable region. When you create a new page based on the template are you able to add text or a form to the region?
If this works then there could be a problem with your template. Try checking the editable region in question using code or split view.
Finally:
Does your template have more than one editable region?
Are your templates nested or repeating?

I can add text yes.
I have 3 regions. Two margin regions on either side and a large centre region. Its the centre region which is causing the problem, the other two quite happily accept inserting a form.
I'm not sure if they are nested or repeating. How can I tell?

Thank you for the update - in theory the form should work in all three regions. If one of the templates were nested inside another then the title of the template would indicate this.

Hi,
Just as a side note, Dreamweaver is saying that you are making a change outside of editable regions. This sometimes happens if you try to insert something (such as a form) and Dreamweaver needs to insert code in other, non-editable regions for the form to work. For example, some Javascript at the top of the file (for any behaviours such as Form Error Checking).
Try doing the exact same thing (insert form, or whatever you're trying to do) in a blank file. Check the code view to see if Dreamweaver inserted anything outside the <FORM> tags.
If it did, you need to make sure you have an editable region to allow for this. Also, you might want to copy and paste the 'extra' dreamweaver code into your original file (in another editable region) first, then try to insert the form again, see if it allows you to.
I would ALWAYS recommend having an editibale region within your <HEAD> tags. This means if Dreamweaver does need to insert Styles or Javascript code, it can.

Dreamweaver tip:Xhtml vs htmlWhen using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format.
