Hi Tim,
Thank you for your question.
A hyperlink can be used to navigate from within your visio document to another file or another visio document.
For example, you can insert a hyperlink on a Process shape in a flowchart and then when you click on the shape it opens up another drawing page that shows the detailed steps the process involves.
