Styles

I am creating new styles and need to add numbering, the number format I need is as follows:

1.

1.1

1.2

1.2.1

I can create the styles but am completely stuck when it comes to numbering especially the 1.1, 1.2 etc.

Thanks

Sue

RE: Styles

Hi Susan

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

You need to use outline numbering to create numbering on multiple levels. So when you modify the style, go to Format - Numbering, then go to the Outline Numbered tab.

I hope this helps.

RE: Styles

Hi Amanda

Thanks for your reply. I've got as far as outline numbering but the numbers on the list are random numbers. I want the numbers to read 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 but the numbering I'm getting is 1.1, 2.1, 3.1.

Thanks

Sue

RE: Styles

Hi Sue

If once you go into Format - Numbering, Outline Numbered, you can go to the Customize button to change how the numbering operates.

There will be levels displayed down the left hand side, if you select level 1, you can then create the format for the numbering that you want on the right; and so on for as many levels as you require. Then click OK, OK to exit.

I hope this helps.

RE: Styles

Hi Amanda

It still not happening! I can get the numbering to be 1.1 but I want the next number to be 1.2 and the computer says 2.1, 3.1 etc.

Is there a number I can call you on as it may be easier to deal with over the phone? Or, can I email you the document and you can see where I'm going wrong.

Sue
