I have a PDF brochure which I have a link from my website.
tastingplaces.com
When you click on the the link the pdf brochure opens but when you close the pdf brochure it closes the whole website. I remember being taught how to put a link in so that when the new page/pdf doc is closed it goes back to the website.
can you help?

RE: Links

Hi Sara

Thank you for your question regarding opening documents.

If I understand you correctly, when you click on the brochure, the PDF opens in the same window that your website is in, effectively replacing your site with the PDF.
On closing the window, your whole site closes.

The solution to this is to open the PDF in a NEW window. This can be done by clicking on the text that is hyperlinked to your brochure in DreamWeaver, and then setting the TARGET property to _BLANK.

This will open a new window and display the PDF when you next click on that text in the Internet Explorer.

Make this change and then test to see if it is working.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another DreamWeaver question?

Have a great day.
Regards,

Richard

Dreamweaver tip:

Xhtml vs html

When using dreamwear template or just creating a blank webpage, you are able to select the markup language you want to use. The main choices are either xhtml or html. It is now best to select xhtml as this will translate all the html into xml, so it is transmitted across the web in xml format. One of the main advantages of this is that it makes the site that you build much more compatible with the range of different web browsers that exist.
