Number search

I am trying to search for a number in a large account spreadsheet. However, the number i am looking for is the product of a formula, and therefore does not come up when I use 'ctrl F' to try and find it. How can i search for numbers that are the product of formulas?

RE: Number search

Hi Andrew

Thank you for your question.

You can use the Find feature (Ctrl + F) to find a formula - could you do a search for the formula instead?

RE: Number search

Unfortunately not, because it is a large spreadsheet with many instances of the formula. It is the specific results of the formula that I would like to search for. Is there any way that can be done?

RE: Number search

Hi Andrew

Try the following:

Go into Find, then click the Options button. Next to Look in, select Values from the dropdown list, then click Find Next.

Excel tip:

Conditional formatting for cells that return text , not picked up by Go to command

If you have tried to format all cells containing text even those that display text as a result of a formula you may have had difficulty. As Go to command with constant selected does not pick up formulas that result in text.

Then try this. Select the range the formula cells appear in on your sheet. Format, select Conditional Formatting menu. In the dialog box under Condition 1, select "Formula Is" from drop down. Next to it in the Formula Box, enter the formula =Istext(A1. Click Format button , choose desired formatting settings and click OK. To go ahead and apply the conditional formatting click OK to accept
