MERGING WORD AND EXCEL

IS IT POSSIBLE TO MERGE WORD TEXT INTO AN EXCEL

RE: MERGING WORD AND EXCEL

Dear Jenny

Thank you for attending Excel courses. I hope you have enjoyed the courses and benefited from them.

I believe you must have found the answer to this question when you attended the Excel Adv. course.

Just to recap.

You can save the Word file as a text (txt) file.

Please ensure that the data you want as columns are seperated either by a comma or Tab key.

The data that you want as rows ensure that you have pressed enter key in Microsoft Word Document.

Once you have saved the word file as text file simply:

Start Excel
Choose Data> Import External Data > Import Data...
Choose the text file that you wish to import.
Follow the Text Import wizard.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

RE: MERGING WORD AND EXCEL

it worked until i wanted to select the file . the file txt does not appear to be selected, as excel is opened only excels files can be seen.

i will explain detailed what i want to do:

I have a word file with a tour description day by bay, for example :

Day 1:
blablabla xxxxxx
xxx
DAY 2:
xxxxxx
xxxx
DAY 3:
XXXX
XXXX

Now what i want to do is to be able to input a date in "DAY1", for example 30Aug08, and that automatically generates me the same file with the onwards dates, so, in day 1 30Aug08, in DAY2 then 31Aug08, in the DAY3 then 1st of September, etccc,

This so that i do not have to change dates manually everytime i need to send to a customer.

Is there any way you can tell me how to do that?

RE: MERGING WORD AND EXCEL

Dear Jenny

Thank you for your response!!

Please find the uploaded files for your refernce and I think this is what I understood you want to do!!

I created a dummy data in Word with the dates and the tours. I saved the file as text only by choosing Text in the save As Type Dialog box.

Then I went to Excel and Left the cell A4:A8 Blank because this is where the data will be imported from the text file.

In Cell A9 I entered a formula =A4+1 (This will give me the following day's date.)

And in Cell A15 I entered a formula =A9+1.

Then I selected Data > Import External data > Import data.

I looked for my text file and when I pressed OK I followed the import wizard.

In the last step I chose cell A4 to be the destination where I want the data to be imported.

That way the dates on A9 and A15 automatically updated!!

I hope this helps!!

If you have any query please press the reply button!!

If this has helped in answering your query then please mark this post as Resolved!!

Many thanks

Excel tip:

Highlighting a data range

Attempting to use a mouse to highlight a large range of cells with data in Excel can make the mouse to have a life of it's own!

Use keyboard strokes instead.

Step 1. Place the cusor in the cell where the highlighting should begin.

Step 2. Select keystroke, CTRL+SHIFT+END

This will take the cursor to the furthermost bottom corner of the data range found in that worksheet. And highlight that range of cells at the same time
