Sorting
when I select data to sort, it often asks if I want to expand the selection, why is this?
RE: Selecting appropriate data while Sorting data in Excel
Dear Alyssa
Thank you for attending Excel 2007 Intermediate course. I hope you enjoyed the course and found it to be useful.
It is very important to understand that when you perform sort command you DO NOT select the data in the column which you want to sort. You need to be on any cell of the column to be sorted. By doing this Excel will sort the column automatically. All teh other data on teh other columns get readjusted.
If you choose the entire data in the column and then choose sort button then Excel assumes that you only want to sort that field (Column). That is whey it asks if you want to expand your selection.
I hope this has helped in answering your question. If it has then can I please kindly request you to mark this post as Resolved. If you need further clarification then please reply stating your specific requirement.
Many thanks
Kindest Regards
