Project linking

how to link a smaller but critical project with a large big picture project in respect of one overall project

RE: Project linking

Hi Kevin

The quickest way to do this is to create a new blank project and from the insert menu you can choose the files that get inserted into the plan.

If you are working with resources however you will need to create a Resource pool first which is a central pool containing the resources to be shared across multiple projects. This must be open in Project

In the project files that will connect to the pool go to tools > resource sharing > share resources and from the dialog box choose to use resources from the resource pool and click on OK.

Now you will be able assign resources from the central pool. When next open the resource pool you will be offered three options. The last option opens the resource pool in read / write mode and also creates a merged file with all the sharer files already inserted.

I hope this is helpful - if you have any questions please do let me know.

Kind regards,

Andrew

MS Project tip:

Inserting Task Durations Quickly

When entering durations for your tasks simply use the single letters - m for min, h for hr, d for day, w for week, but mon for month. If default is set for days, you need only type the number, for example 3 for 3days, or 0.5 for half a day.
