The campaign for leadership of the United Kingdom culminated in a tense battle for the opportunity to walk through the doors of No 10, but how many people actually voted for David Cameron because of his policies and how many put an X by his name because of his personality?

Although politicians want to convince you that they will keep the country safe and prosperous via their manifestos which certainly indicate assurances of a greater Britain...it is the way that they deliver these messages which carry a sweeping influence across the nation.

So how did David Cameron win the majority vote? What did he do which was any different to the other political candidates?

Upon first observance, it is easy to see that this is a man who exudes confidence even before he opens his mouth. His sharp, immaculate dress sense complements a clean and polished appearance. His body language is precise and direct. He walks with his head up high, is self-assured under the spotlight and expresses his views with calmness and composure. He has a good posture, smiles a lot and has an unfaltering belief in his capabilities. Even though he started out on the same starting line as the others, his self-confidence brought him to the finishing line.

He proved that if he didn't have all of the answers he would find them, if setbacks should occur, he would be able to find alternative ways to reach the same outcome. This is someone who will continue to set challenge after challenge for himself and keep pushing the boundaries further and further to show his true potential. To someone such as David Cameron, victory over the election was not the end of the battle, it was just the start!

This is a man who demonstrates that trials and tribulations can be conquered under his control. He has a strong determination, seizes the moment and wins...it is about the hard exterior and the soft interior working as one, someone who can deal with a lot of contradictory people, difficult personalities, different cultures, values, feelings and still obtain the desired results. This means taking the driver's seat and steering the country through all of the conflict and confusion so as all the oppressors of this world start to back down and follow the leader.

How does he achieve this? Simply by, showing an unwavering belief in his convictions and always being able to provide an answer as to why his decision is correct. This gives people no choice but to put their doubts to one side and jump on board to help bring those visions to life.

He also possesses a high degree of resilience which complements his optimism. This serves as a high motivator for his team and drives them through any difficulties with a headstrong determination. As a result, he will only work with those whose energy and enthusiasm is as strong as his. In return, he has tremendous amount of respect for his team and relies on them for their knowledge and input. He also appreciates the fact that they are able to work at his high pace with a methodical and systematic approach.

David Cameron possesses social skills which are far more sincere than the UK's previous Prime Ministers. He seems to light up when in the company of others which makes him instantly approachable and noticeable. Effective social interaction is actually the fifth pillar of EQ (emotional intelligence). It involves the natural art of being able to effectively communicate with people in such a way as to build and maintain lasting relationships.

People with a high EQ often build instant rapport with people from all walks of life whether it is the president of the USA or a worker on the factory floor. Mr Cameron shows that he is truly genuine and this is something which is not turned on and off for public display.

With his self confidence at such an elevated level, he does not become preoccupied with the comments, thoughts and opinions of those who do not bring anything to the table. As a result, his hard exterior but soft centre allows him to be firm but fair. This earns him respect as he can be a straight talker when has to be and will demand action if things are not happening. This ensures that plans are always carried out according to his requirements and allows him to 'nip things in the bud' before they fall into the hands of dangerous and destructive forces.

Someone with this amount of responsibility and power over a country has to be intelligent, quick to learn and highly knowledgeable. His analytical way of thinking allows him to deal with hard facts rather than emotions. This provides a clearing for logic to enter the decision making process and makes data analysis a reliable source for reaching important decisions.

All of these qualities show that David Cameron has excellent decisive behaviour which helps him take appropriate action with minimum risk. Along with a great deal of courage, he uses this process to gather all of the information that he needs to make plans which will yield positive results, often in the face of tremendous opposition. He also puts aside his own emotions and will not allow them to play a part in his decision making.

With the culmination of high social skills, firm objectives, intelligence and endless enthusiasm, he has a united team who work well together to make things happen. He is able to delegate tasks and allocate responsibilities by setting up systems which ensure that processes are carried out effectively by everyone. His infectious passion and determination instils great confidence in his colleagues.

This is an impressive profile of the UK's current prime minister who could also act as a role model for many professionals. However, it is advisable to adopt the behaviour of someone who resonates a personal connection rather than a prolific figure with whom there is very little inspiration.

David Cameron's approach to leadership is down to earth, methodical and practical but he may need to learn a degree of flexibility with his decisions in order to allow room for changes if problems should occur. This means, sticking to an objective but not becoming too rigid with every detail. Colleagues may offer practical suggestions which should not be instantly dismissed especially if they are negative.

Self confidence is without doubt, a major strength but it must be directed and implemented with an aire of flexibility to avoid arrogance. Whilst it is vital to have a strong team that you can depend on, it is also worthwhile having a team that is made up of diverse characters so as a situation can be viewed from many different perspectives. Having a group of clones which all share the same values is futile as there will be very few people to challenge ideas and offer alternative ways of looking at things. If a leader does not have such a strategy in pace, he will adopt the view that his decisions are always right...this is where self belief is overtaken by arrogance.

Remember: It takes a lot of confidence to stand up and speak but it can also be gained from sitting down and listening too!
