When running a project, management techniques and software go some way in making it a success, but it is imperative to put together the best team possible and Prince2 can assist you in doing this.

In the days before computer applications were widely used to solve workplace issues, managers relied on their past experience and proven practical techniques to get them through. Then software arrived and streamlined the processes that make up the planning, organisation and execution of some tasks. Whichever method you choose to use, you will generally need to have a reliable panel of employees and colleagues assisting you.

Prince2 is also referred to as Projects In Controlled Environments, and this rather lengthy title describes a system of processes and steps you are free to apply to both large and smaller tasks. The technique is so effective it is used by governments and organisations around the world, meaning it is recognised in various countries and cultures. Any qualifications held tend to be appreciated in many workplaces across the globe.

Perhaps the strongest element of Prince2, is its thoroughness when it comes to planning, organising and reviewing projects when it is applied to campaigns. Another important element of the technique, is that it encourages you to put together a group of people who are chosen to help direct and give feedback on the development of the initiative. One of the most important roles, and the job possibly held by you, is that of project manager.

The person who takes up this role will be responsible for hiring all the others that will take part in the initiative. You'll need to consider each individual process, such as initiating and directing tasks, and breaking each project into manageable stages. As well as overseeing and planning the major assignments that make up the entire campaign, you'll need to check that tasks do not use all the resources, while also maintaining good communication between all the team members and groups concerned.

As may be obvious, large tasks will need the best people on board to help you succeed. Prince2 provides guidance on who these ought to be. For example, if you are tasked with producing educational materials such as course notes, then Prince2 advises you to gather together several interested parties regularly and place them in management roles as part of the Project Board. So in the previous example, you are encouraged to bring a representative from the educational establishment who requires the course notes and who is paying for the service (the customer/executive), a person who will benefit from the materials - such as a student, who is referred to as the user - and finally a specialist.

This last role refers to the group who are providing their skills and knowledge to develop the product, and in this case may be a publishing firm rep. These groups can provide valuable insights and feedback as the project progresses and their input may help lead to a conclusion where all are satisfied. The key to a successful working relationship between the Project Manager and Project Board is good communication.

The board members provide assistance with Project Assurance, which is a technique that helps check that budgets are healthy, and the customer is getting what they require. Another important job role is that of Project Support, and under this category are roles for administration staff who can help you deal with the necessary paperwork and communications that arrive regularly over the course of your assignment.
