Excel Chart
Hi there
What do you think would be best chart format to analyse some data that consists of:
Date of Call out
Day of call out
Time Of Call out
Call out Reference
We are trying to see if there is any pattern in the days & times of call outs to improve rosters.
Many thanks
RE: Excel Chart
Dear Jan
Thank you for attending the Excel Advanced course.
The best possible solution that I can think for your query is to use the pivot tables.
Please refer to the excel file that I have uploaded for your convenience.
You will observe I have added the field headings that you specified in your query for ease of understanding.
The dates have been formatted with custom setting as mmmm which only show the months in full. In order to see the actual dates please click on the cell and observe the formula bar.
Step 1: I created the pivot table based on the small table.
Step 2: I dragged the Time of call out field to the Row heading area and the Data item area. I also changed the SUM to COUNT by double clicking on the Time of the call on the column header.
Step 3: I dragged the Day of Callout and Date of callout to the Page field header area to get the result you see in the uploaded file.
Step 4: Then I created the pivot chart based on the pivot table which was simply to click anywhere in the pivot table and click the chart wizard button on the Pivot table toolbar or the standard toolbar. This appears on a separate sheet.
Step 5: It automatically generated a column chart but I converted it into a Line chart with data points.
Please note that the pivot table is in ascending order of the time.
If you wish to compare the calls on the basis of days of the week instead of the no. of calls then on the chart simply swap the fields around by dragging the time of calls from the category axis to the page filed and Day of call from page field to the category axis.
Please try using the file for your purpose and see if it is helpful.
I hope this helps.
If this posting has helped in answering your query then I would request you to mark the posting as Resolved. If, however, it hasn
RE: Excel Chart
Thanks Raj
Sorry to be thick I still can't seem to get the chart right.
Basically we want the time of callout & day of week mapped across dates/months to see any trends.
For example if Fridays at 1am are a recurring callout time (after the pub!) or every other Friday etc.
