Floating bar chart

I am trying to produce a bar chart with numerous horizontal bars each starting and finishing at a different date. I need the date along the x-axis and also a third axis for a number. So one horizontal bar will start from 12/12/06 and end 3/3/07 another will be 1/1/07 to 3/4/07 etc. I also need a shareprice style line going along in the background that can vary with the timeline on the x-axis.
Sorry I can;t make it ay clearer, if necessasry I will fax a picture.
Thanks.

RE: Floating bar chart

a complex question.

perhaps look at using two label axes on the graph using 2 different chart types.

So have a BAR chart for the date periods, and then a STOCK chart for the other data.

Graph both sets of data using the BAR chart to start, then select the stock data series on the chart, and change its chart type to STOCK.

let us know if that is in the right direction

Excel tip:

Trace Dependents / Precedents without the blue arrows

Rather than using the toolbar you can press CTRL+] which is the equivelent of trace dependants and CTRL+[ for precendants. Both of these ways though will not show the blue arrows but jump to the cell containing the formula.
