Locking data in a cell

Hi Guys

Is there a way I can lock a cell in excel from auto populating data after it has collected the data from another cell ?

Example, I have a cell that collects information from A2 and populates that in D2. If I change the source data in A2 then it'll then affect the data in D2.

Can I get D2 to lock the data once it's been populated?

RE: Locking data in a cell

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for the forum question.

If you have =A2 in the cell D2, you have a "live" reference back to A2, and if the content change in A2 it will also change D2.

You will have to copy A2 and paste in D2. You may have to paste special and only paste values, if you have a formula in A2.

Excel tip:

Editing Formulas in Excel Cells

Although people like to edit a formula in the Formula bar, you can also edit a formula in the cell.

To do this select the cell and press "F2". This puts Excel into Edit mode, and you can move around in the cell and make any necessary changes.

Double-clicking the cell also puts Excel in Edit mode.
