Pinning to a Dashboard
Hi Jens,
I'm attempting to pin a couple of visuals from a report onto a dashboard, but when I click on the pins nothing is happening. Weirdly I am able to pin other visuals from the same report. I'm looking to pin the visuals themselves as opposed to the whole report pages (these I do seem to be able to pin).
For context, I downloaded a pre-existing report from the service to desktop in order to make use of the dataset for this report. Not sure if that could be relevant!
Any thoughts on what might be causing this?
Thanks,
Lauren
RE: Pinning to a Dashboard
Hi Lauren,
Thank you for the forum question.
Some visuals cannot be pinned to a dashboard and there can be a number of reason, why a visual cannot be pinned.
You can't pin tiles from reports that are shared with you.
Some special custom visual or slicer visual, it is not supported to pin to dashboard.
I haven't had this problem, but I have Googled problems pin to dashboard.
Some got error messages when they tried to pin.
For some users it resolved the problem by updating Power BI to the latest version.
Others did the steps below.
1. Remove report and related dataset from service.
2. Publish report one more time from desktop version.
3. Pin appropriate visual to dashboard.
P.S. Re-saving or republishing doesn't help, only remove and publish in my case.
I am sorry but I cannot really tell you what the problem is in your case and how to solve it, but I hope that this answer can help you anyway.
Kind regards

RE: Pinning to a Dashboard
Hi Jens,
Thank you for your suggestions. I tried them but then did some more research and discovered that it's actually a bug which others have experienced too, and which has been reported to Microsoft. The current workaround is to go into Edit and toggle the visual title off and on again, after which the pinning works. Just in case anyone else mentions it!
Thanks,
Lauren
