Project planning and Outlook compatibility

Can I link my project plan to my outlook calendar and what is the eases way to do this?

RE: Project planning and Outlook compatibility

Hi Magdalena

The integration between Project and Outlook isn't easy as you would expect. If you look back in this forum many have asked this question and while there was a legacy feature to export to Outlook it was one directional. If the task date changed in project it remained static in Outlook and didn't update.

The only way to achieve this is using Project Online (based on SharePoint and replaces the older Project Server) This SharePoint calendar can be loaded into Outlook but requires support from your IT team. It's not an easy integration or one that you can do yourself.

Microsoft Project has always had these limitations.

Microsoft is using To Do as it's task based management system which it has added to Outlook. It connects to Tasks assigned in Microsoft Planner (which is a very light version of Project and is based on the Kanban board concept)

Until they improve Microsoft Project and integrate it further it will continue to be separated from the dynamic tasks and calendar events of Outlook, To Do and Planner

Kind regards

Richard

MS Project tip:

Email a Task

When you need to communicate important information to your project staff use Microsoft Project 2003 to send them a note using outlook or an e-mail system.

1.In a task sheet, select the task or tasks which you want to send a project note.

2.On the File menu, point to Send To, and then select Mail Recipient (as Schedule Note).

3.Under Address message to, select the recipients of your note.
