Colour formatting for percentage
Hi, I would like to know how to format colour scales for percentage cells to provide either a red colour for percentage below 0,00% and a green colour for percentage greater then 0.00
How do i do this?
many thanks,
Daniel
RE: Colour formatting for percentage
Hi there Daniel,
Thank you so much for your question in STL's forum.
My name is Ron and I am a Learning and development Consultant for STL training.
The tool to use to achieve what you want to do is done through Conditional formatting.
The process:
1. Select all the cells that contain those percentages
2. Select the home tab in the ribbon and click on Conditional formatting
3. Click on 'New Rule...'
4. Click on 'Use a formula to determine which cells to format'
5. click in the box Just below the text 'Format values where this formula is True'
6. Enter '=' then click the first cell in your selection i.e. the cell that has the first percentage value.
7. Notice that the cell you selected is listed as an absolute reference.
8. Remove the dollar symbols from the reference
9. Type '<0'
the formula should read something like =A2<0
10. Click the Format button and add a fill colour of red
11. click Ok and Ok again
Keep the cells selected for the second format
9. Type '>0'
the formula should read something like =A2>0
10. Click the Format button and add a fill colour of green
11. click Ok and Ok again.
I attached a little Excel file with an example. To see the formulas, select a cell with a percentage then click on the Home tab. Then choose 'conditional formatting and Manage rules. You will see an example of the formulas I discussed above.
I hope this solves your question Daniel, Good luck.
Kind regards

Excel tip:Shortcut fill a cell with contents from adjacent cellsUse Control + D to fill a cell with the data from an adjacent cell. This speeds up data entry and is a cool tip to share! |
