Editing a Column in data source
Hi,
I need to change the column exported from our database, but when I do this, POwer BI views it as an error, even if I change the heading in BI.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
RE: Editing a Column in data source
Hi Lou,
Thank you for the forum question.
I need more information to be able to help you. Very often when I meet errors during import, it is the data type in the column, which give me problem.
Please let me know the exact error message you get from Power Bi. You can get a lot of knowledge about the error by looking at the query editor.
On the View tab in the query editor in the Data Preview group you can get a lot of useful information to understand the errors you have.
Kind regards

RE: Editing a Column in data source
Hi Jens,
I've changed the field I export from the database, but it's the same type of data. The error I get when I try to load this now is
"The column 'Appeal ID' of the table wasn't found."
The field I originally exported was Appeal ID. I'm now trying to export Appeal List.
I'm not sure I can even get to query editor if it won't load the data?
Thanks,
RE: Editing a Column in data source
Hi Lou,
Make a copy of the file. In the Query Editor select the table with the column you want to change. On the View tab open the Advanced Query editor. Replace Appeal ID with Appeal List. Appeal ID may be there multiple times. Click OK.
It is very important that you first try this on a copy of the file. It is very easy to do something wrong in the Advanced query editor.
If it is working copy the Power Query M code from the advanced query editor and paste it in the advanced query editor for the table in the real file.
Kind regards

Power BI tip:Implement Row-Level Security (RLS)If your reports contain sensitive information, implement Row-Level Security to control access to data at the row level. RLS allows you to define rules that restrict data access based on user roles, ensuring that each user sees only the relevant data according to their permissions. |
