Inserting a picture to the footer
I am struggling to insert a logo into the footer when I am on Page layout. Is this possible on a mac?
RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Max
I don't have access to a mac right now. With the Windows version of Excel you can insert a logo as follows:
1. Select View, Page Layout
2. Click where you want the log to appear.
3. From within the Design tab select Picture and browse to your logo file and choose Open.
4. If the logo is too large click Format Picture and redude thwe % Height.
Please let me know if that works on the mac. If not I will check with a mac trainer later this morning.

RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Doug,
Thank you very much for the reply. Unfortunately I can't get it to work. If you were able to ask a mac trainer, that would be great.
Thank you, Max
RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Max
I'm one of the trainers here and I'm running Office 2016 on a Mac.
Let me know the problems you are encountering.
Doug's steps are very similar to the Mac version - start double clicking in the footer area of the page and from the Insert ribbon choosing to insert picture from file. After it is inserted it may need to be resized so it fits the footer area.
What results have you been getting?
Kind regards,
Andrew
RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for getting back to me to help.
I select page layout within view. I then click on the footer and I can happily type in the footer. However, when I click on the insert ribbon, all of the options are faded - I am unable to click on any of them.
Thank you very much for your help.
Kind Regards,
Max
RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Max
Thanks for the update - three quick questions.
First I just want to double check the version of Word you are using. Is the view labelled Page layout or Print layout in your version?
Next could you try and add a picture into the main body of your document. Does that work OK?
Lastly could you create a new blank document then first test you can insert a picture in the body of the document then try the same with the footer.
Kind regards,
Andrew
RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Andrew,
It is excel.
It is labelled page layout. Version 15.19.1. Product ID: 02984-001-000001. 2016 Microsoft.
Yes i just successfully added a picture into the spreadsheet via insert ribbon.
Also created a new workbook. Inserted a picture into spreadsheet. Attempted to do the same process in the footer but again, I was unable to select any of the options when I was on the insert ribbon.
Thank you,
Max
RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Max
Ah - thank you for testing and for correcting my mistake re the application. On testing it looks like this feature is not yet implemented in Excel 2016 (but was available in Excel 2011). I'm just checking to see if there are any workarounds - but have not found any so far.
Will get back to you shortly and thank you for your patience.
Kind regards,
Andrew
RE: inserting a picture to the footer
Hi Max
It looks like this feature is not yet supported in the current release of Excel. That's not to say it won't be added in the future but it's not available in Excel 2016 on the Mac.
That being said I did find a work around of sorts. Excel 2016 on the Mac will display images that have been added to a sheet's footer. It just won't let us add them ourselves. I created a test file with an image in the footer using Excel on Windows (an earlier version of Excel on the Mac would work too). The file open's fine in Excel 2016 on the Mac.
This is not ideal of course and indicates they are prioritising features. I expect this is the kind of thing that will get picked up in future releases.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help on this one.
Do let us know if you have any other questions.
Kind regards,
Andrew
