Update existing data from excel into word as pie chart
Hi,
I currently have existing date on an excel spreadsheet that does not automatically update the pie charts on a word document. How do I rectify this problem?
Thanks
Jag
RE: Update existing data from excel into word as pie chart
Hi Jag,
Thank you for the forum question.
If you have added the charts as active links to the Word document the charts should update. The links can be broken.
If you have move the source or destination file the link will break. To check links in Word please click the FILE tab and click INFO. In the bottom right corner you will find EDIT LINKS. Click EDIT LINKS and in the dialog box you can test the links. You can also generate the link again if it is broken.
I hope this can help you.

RE: Update existing data from excel into word as pie chart
Hi Jagraj
Thank you for your question. The problem might be down to how the Charts were added to the Word document.
It's worth doing a test first. Copy your chart from Excel then paste into Word. In the lower right corner a smart tag icon of a clipboard will appear.
When you click this icon you will see that there are several pasting options. One of which is already highlighted. Usually this is "use destination theme and link data" and this is the option that you need.
What should happen is any changes in the Excel chart will appear the Word document.
It is possible that the Charts in your Word document need re-pasting with the link option selected.
Other possible causes could be that the location of either the spreadsheet or the document has changed since the link was first made.
Let me know how the test goes.
Kind regards,
Andrew
