Undo individual letters in Word 2007

Hi.

I am the only person in my workplace who has an undo function that only undoes the previous keystroke, not the whole word. For example if I typed "word", I would have to undo four letters "d", "r", "o", "w" rather than one word. Does anyone know how I can change the settings to stop this.

Many thanks,
Mark.

RE: Undo individual letters in Word 2007

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your question regarding the UNDO feature in Word removing only one letter at a time.

I have come across two causes for this issue. The first is a simple one and involves the use of the 'Insert' vs 'Overtype' mode. If you right-click the Status bar at the bottom of the window and make sure that 'Overtype' is selected. When you click this option on the Status bar it changes the mode from Insert to Overtype. When in Overtype mode the Undo operation only works on one letter at a time.

To fix this, make sure that the mode you are using is 'Insert'.

The second cause may be a glitch in the Word 2007 program where there is a conflict when using certain operating systems. You can try to fix this as follows:

Open your Control Panel and select the Keyboard option. Change the Repeat Delay to Short and click OK. Go to Word and test the Undo operation. If it is still misbehaving go back to the Keyboard dialog box and reset the Repeat Delay to its previous or even higher position. Go back to Word and re-test.

Give either of these two suggestions a try!!

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Word tip:

Save Multiple Documents

If you have two or more documents open at a time but you don't want to go through the rigmarole of saving them one at a time then you can close or save them all in one go.

Hold down the Shift key and go to the File menu

Two new commands, Save All and Close All appear

One click and all of your open documents will be saved or closed.
