Counting occurrences of words

How can I count the number of times a specific word occurrs in an array of cells or in a row or column?

RE: Counting occurrences of words

Hello Martin,

Thank you for your question regarding how to count occurences of words in an array of cells in Excel.

Select a cell where you require the result to appear and use the following formula:

=COUNTIF(Array,"*word*")

Replace the word array with the range where the words are located. Replace the next part with the word you are trying to count. I have used the * wildcard since the word may be anywhere in a cell.

Give this a try!!

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Excel tip:

Enter formulae into multiple cells

If a formula is to be used in a series of cells, select the cells first. Now type in your formula and hold the Ctrl key while you press Enter. This enters the formula in each selected cell.

Just be careful with your absolute and relative cell references.
