How do I split a task?

RE: Project Pro 2010

Hello Steve,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Project courses with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding how to split a task in project.

In the Task ribbon click the Split button located in the Schedule group and move your mouse over the task bar where you wish to place the split. As you move your mouse across the bar you will observe a banner to the left which shows the date corresponding to where the mouse position is. As soon as the date appears on the banner which matches with the date where the split should be then click the left mouse button.

This creates a one day split in the task bar. If you require a longer split, place your mouse on the left side of the right hand portion of the task bar until you observe your mouse changing to an arrow over a cross. Left click and drag to the right and watch the dates change in the banner that appears until the split is completed.

Give this a try!

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

MS Project tip:

Inserting Task Durations Quickly

When entering durations for your tasks simply use the single letters - m for min, h for hr, d for day, w for week, but mon for month. If default is set for days, you need only type the number, for example 3 for 3days, or 0.5 for half a day.
