Complete summary tasks do not hide when "Incomplete Tasks" filte

When there is a summary task and all tasks within it are complete 100%, then the % complete is still shown as 0% for the summary task.

I am trying to hide all completed summary tasks from a big project plan to simplify it, but they do not hide, and I suspect this is because they are still shown as 0%.

It does not appear to be possible to manually set the 0% for a summary task, so I am a bit stuck. I do not want to delete the tasks as this will remove history from the project that could be used to help plan future projects.

Please can you advise how I can hide summary tasks with completed sub-tasks? Thank you.

Hello Martin,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Project Intro Intermediate course with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding summary tasks not hiding when applying the Incomlete Tasks filter.

I have tested this on several projects on my computer and unfortunately cannot get the summary tasks NOT to hide.

Are you able to send your file to me for checking? If so, please send it to my email address as follows:

Have a great day.

MS Project tip:

Set default task type - Project 2010

a. In Project, click on the File tab
b. Select Options from left hand side
c. Click on Schedule to set the scheduling options
d. Set the Default Task type box to your chosen option
i. Generally if you plan/estimate your projects using durations you should use fixed duration, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven, if you plan/estimate with person hours use fixed work, or for plans estimated with the proportion of resources time use fixed units, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven)
e. Click OK to apply your changes
