Counting

Hi

I am trying to count cells, and want a formula that can count only the cells I need.

Company name:

ABC -
class A -£123
class B - £234
Class C-£456

BDC
class A- 567
Class B- 123
Clsas C-999

EFG
Class A-0
Class B 12
Class C -88

How can I count all the class As?
and then how can I count the companies which only have 1 class?

Many thanks for your help.

Kind regards.

Suyeon

RE: counting

Hello Suyeon,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Excel courses with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding counting data.

I have taken your example and created a formula using the function COUNTIF. I have added a bit of Data Validation to create a drop-down list to choose the class from.

The formula I used looks like this:

=COUNTIF(H3:H16,G18)

I haven't been able as yet to work out how to count the companies with one class. I think that it could be done using VBA code. I will try to work this one out for you and come back to you later.

I have attached the file I created for your information.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Excel tip:

Hiding a worksheet in Excel

Want to circulate an Excel workbook file but keep certain worksheets hidden from your colleagues' view?

You can do so by bringing up the sheet you wish to hide on your screen; then going to Format - Sheet - Hide.

It will not be immediately obvious that a sheet is hidden from view unless perhaps the sheet are still labelled Sheet 1, Sheet 2 etc.

To display the sheet again, you can go to Format - Sheet - Unhide on any of the other sheets in the workbook. A dialogue box will appear, allowing you to select the hidden sheet/s. Click OK to make the sheet/s reappear again.
