Connecting one sheet to another

At the course I showed th etrainer a document that a previous employer had made for our summer course where they linked one sheet to another. it's now that time of year again and I have completely forgotten how to do this. Would somebody be a ble to talk through how to do this please?

RE: Connecting one sheet to another

Hi Penny

Thank you for your question. A quick way to link between two sheets is to decide which sheet provides the source information and which sheet will be the destination. This is the sheet where the linked formula will be created.

So, on the destination sheet, click where you would like the result to appear. Type the equals symbol

=

then click on the sheet tab that contains the source information you wish to refer to. On the source sheet click on the cell that contains the figure you want then press the Enter button.

Excel will create a link that brings the value from cell on the source sheet to cell you selected on the destination sheet.

The same process works when you wish to build a formula that refers to values on other sheets. First start in the cell where the answer will be displayed, press = and build your formula. As you click on cells on other sheets Excel will put in the links as needed to the other parts of your workbook.

Let me know how you get on with this. It's worth practising on a backup copy of your file before making the edits on your live spreadsheet.

Do let me know if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Excel tip:

3D formulas find and replace

After you know all the components of a 3D reference, you can change them to suit by using a localised Find and replace crt+f, if need be.
