Link Tasks From Two Different MS 2010 Plans
How do I link tasks from two different MS Project 2010 Plans?
RE: Link Tasks From Two Different MS 2010 Plans
Hi Ajibola,
Thank you for your question.
To link tasks from multiple project plans together, create a new project and use the Insert Project command to insert the individual projects. Then link the tasks together. As they are separate projects you have to create external links between the last task of one project and the first task of the next project. These are known as external predecessors and external successors.
This link should help you.

I hope this helps.

RE: Link Tasks From Two Different MS 2010 Plans
I don't want to go down the Insert route where I Insert an entire project, but I want to link tasks form different projects and the linked tasks will in show in both plans in a faint grey colour.
RE: Link Tasks From Two Different MS 2010 Plans
Hi Ajibola,
Thank you for your reply.
Try and copy the tasks from the other projects and use paste special to paste them in with a link. Then link the tasks using external predecessors.
I hope this helps.
I will pass this onto a colleague to see if he can suggest anything.

Simon
RE: Link Tasks From Two Different MS 2010 Plans
Hi Simon,
The solution you have provided above is somewhat useful too, I have figured out the exact solution I am looking for.
1) Open the project plans you would like to link;
2) In the predecessor column type write the project file name and \ followed by the role number. e.g. OfficeMove\7.
Regards,
Ajibola.
