Critical Path
Does MS Project automatically find or set the Critical Path in a plan (in Tracking Gantt view) or can I manually set it. If automatic then how does it do it?
RE: Critical Path
Hi Naresh,
Thank you for your question. MS Project calculates the Critical path for you and it shows the critical tasks in red. Also if you apply the Schedule table to the Gantt Chart, it will show you the Total and Free slack values.
It is a bit of a detailed process to explain in a response, so I have included a link to a site with a good explanation.
Basically, it uses the earliest and latest start and finish dates to work out the slack or float values. If the total slack is 0 then it is critical if above 0 non critical.
Please find the following link:

I hope this helps.
Regards
Simon

MS Project tip:Formatting Bar TextTo display notes or resource initials on the Gantt chart bars, choose Format, Bar Styles and the Text tab. Select the position you want to show the text i.e. Top or Inside etc, then choose the field name you are looking for from the drop down arrow. Type the first letter of the name to get quickly to the top of the letter range. Click OK. |
