Calendars
Attempts to create 2 additional task calendars are proving futile in that the working hours are not displayed correctly when allocated to a task.
I have created Calendar 1 and Night Calendar 2 from :-
TOOLS > “CHANGE WORKING TIME > CREATE NEW CALENDAR > CREATE NEW BASE CALENDAR (No exceptions )
Calendar 1 (DAY working) 07:30 to 1730 (10hrs) Mon to Fri 50 hrs per wk
Night Calendar 2 (Night working) 20:00 to 05:00 (9hrs) Mon evening to Saturday morning 45 hrs per week. (No exceptions)
When reviewing the start and finish times :-
Tasks 1 and 2 are correctly shown (8hrs per day on standard calendar)
Task 3 (Calendar 1 – 10 hrs per day)
Should start at 02.09.11 @0730 (0800 indicated)
Duration 1.25 days x 10 hrs = 12.5 hrs
Should finish 05.09.11 @0730 + 2.5 hrs = 05.09.11 @1000 (0800 indicated)
I`m unable to determine how these times have come about
Task 4 (Night Calendar 2 – 9 hrs per day)
Should start @ 02.09.11 @ 2000 (Correctly shown)
Duration 5 days x 9 hrs = 45 hrs
Should finish Fri 09.09.11 @ 0500 (0000 indicated – This would imply 8 hrs per day not 9)
Would you like my trial project file?
Regards
Chris
RE: Calendars
Hi Chris
Thanks for your post. I am going to have to run this by a couple of my colleagues to see if they may have some initial ideas/solutions.
Yes it may well be the case that we do need to see your actual Project file, we will let you know if so.
If we find that a solution can't be addressed within the limits of this forum we can look to spend some trainer development time to seek a solution, but I will be in contact with to discuss this option if need be.
Kind regards
Jacob
RE: Calendars
Hi Chris
Thanks for your question. Jacob forwarded your email and I have a suggestion to try.
MS Project starts its plan at 8:00 on the project start day. If your custom calendar has a start time that is earlier Project will delay your task until the Project starts (8:00). To allow for tasks that start at an earlier time on the first day of the project go to Project > Project information and check the start time. You may want to set it to 7:00 am.
Tasks assigned to the default standard calendar will still start at 8:00
Let me know if this gets closer to an answer to the problems you have found.
Kind regards,
Andrew
