Project and Outlook functionality
Hi,
During my training session I was told that if I had the 2010 versions of both project and outlook that I would be able to link tasks between the two without needing the server addition. In the lesson we used the set reminder button. I can't find out how to get it to work. Do you know how to do it?
RE: Project and Outlook functionality
Hi Martin,
Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.
Sorry for the delay in responding. I have spent some time looking on the forums and there seems to be issues using this button in 2010.
I have included the following link that explains you have to take the plan to Sharepoint server and then there is an Outlook connector:
http://epmsource.com/2011/02/09/sync-project-tasks-to-outlook-without-exchange/
The button in question needs to be added to the ribbon by using the following instructions:
1. File Tab.
2. Options.
3. Customize Ribbon.
4. Change the Commands option to All Commands.
5. Search for 'Set Reminder'.
6. Create a new tab and rename it.
7. With the new tab selected, click once on the Set Reminder button and then click Add to add it to the new tab.
I believe there may be an issue using Project 2010 and Outlook 2007. There may be an issue using that Set Reminder button if you are not using the same version of Outlook.
What version of Outlook are you using? If you are using the same versions in both then it works ok as I have tested it with tasks in project 2007 and Outlook 2007.
I am awaiting a phone call from a colleague who will hopefully give me a more definitive answer.
Regards
Simon
RE: Project and Outlook functionality
Hi,
I am running the full office 2010 suite. One of the reasons for the upgrade was because I was aware that you had to use the same version of outlook as the version of project. We don't have share point though!
Regards,
Martin
RE: Project and Outlook functionality
Hi Martin,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
I have been looking over forums and answers to the problem you have had and it seems it may be one of the following issues:
1. Same version of Outlook and Project.
2. No previous versions of Project currently installed.
3. Is it a clean and full installation of Project 2010?
