RE: Conditional Formatting; IF Functions

Hello Christopher,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Excel course with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding Conditional Formatting and IF functions.

You haven't given much information regarding how many date fields you have in the sheet, however, I assume you are comparing one date with either another date to establish the overdue position.

If this is the case simply select the column of dates where you require the conditional formatting to appear, then click 'Format' 'Conditional Formatting' click the top left drop-down and select 'Formula Is'.

Type the formula into the field area to the left and then click the 'Format' button and choose font/fill colours as required. Then click OK.

A typical formula could be =latest date field - older date field > time limit in days e.g. (=(E2-A2)>15)

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Excel tip:

Conditional Formatting in Excel 2010

If you have lots of data in a spreadsheet, you may find that it is easier to read if you highlight some of the values. This is Conditional Formatting and here's how to use it:

1) Select the data you wish to apply the format to and click Conditional Formatting
2) A list of options will then appear, from this list, choose the format you wish to display e.g. find all cells with a value less than 0
3) Excel will then highlight all of these cells

To remove this: select the highlighted cells, click the drop down on the Conditional Formatting icon and select Clear Rules from selected cells.
