I want to attach RAG (Red/Amber/Gree) status to one of my spreadsheets - how best do I do this?

RE: Excel

Hello Fiona,

Hope you enjoyed your Microsoft Excel Intermediate course with Best STL.

Thank you for your question regarding attaching a Red/Amber/Green status to data in a spreadsheet.

This is done with Conditional Formatting.

Select the column of data that requires highlighting then click the Conditional Formatting button in the 'Styles' section of the 'Home' ribbon go to 'Icon Sets' and click on the 'Traffic Lights' set.

You may wish to edit how this is shown by again clicking on the Conditional Formatting button then selecting 'Manage Rule' then click 'Edit Rule'. Here you can make changes to how the formatting rule is applied to the data you have selected.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Excel tip:

Stop Formula Returning A "#DIV/0" Error

If a formula returns a #DIV/0 error message there is a way to avoid such results.

For example the formula =A1/B1 will return a #DIV/0 if B1 is empty or a zero.

If you protect your formulas with the ISERROR function, the formula will then look like this:

=IF(ISERROR(A1/B1),0,A1/B1)

In plain English: should the result of A1 divided by B1 be an error change the result to 0 else show the result of A1/B1.
